BitGym for iOS supports Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitors. These are also known as BT 4.0 or BT Low Energy devices.
Usually these are worn on your chest. For the last several years only chest rate based straps had any level of accuracy for exercisers, but lately some new entries which work in your ears or on your forearm are hitting the market.
A great device is the Wahoo Tickr.
A capable and lower cost option is the 60beat Blue.
Some iOS devices do not have Bluetooth Smart support, so to use this feature you must have one of:
- iPhone 4S, 5, 6 or newer
- iPod Touch 5th gen or newer
- iPad Air, Mini, 3rd & 4th gen or newer.
Please note we do not support any ANT+ devices.
While smart watches such as the Apple Watch or those by FitBit do not support the bluetooth protocol and thus cannot show their heart rate inside of the BitGym application, these devices do provide their own visualization of your heart rate which means you're able to reference it while training with BitGym.
See our article on how to connect your heart rate monitor for more info.
